How to treat a sty

Why stye needs to be treated?

In fact, if you have a normal immune system, then inflammation of the sebaceous glands or hair follicles (it is the stye) usually does not need treatment. You have swollen, reddened and painful edge of the eyelid for no more than 2 days, after which the sty becomes an ordinary pimple, which eventually bursts and heals. All the process lasts no more than 5 days, and if you can tolerate it, you can do nothing. However, it is better to make precautions: if you do not start treatment of sty in time, there may be several inflammations, which will be a serious burden for the body’s defense system.

So if you feel:

the appearance of weakness,
raising the temperature
inflammation of the lymph nodes,
you need to immediately do everything to not to let the sty to develop further.

How to treat a sty at home?

The best way to do this is to use a variety of special ointments. Just ask the pharmacist how to treat a sty, and he can recommend one or two ointments, which will remove the inflammation and swelling, but it is unlikely to accelerate the healing. If there is no pharmacy around, you can try to burn the sty by means at hand:

iodine or brilliant green,
rubbing alcohol;
alcohol-containing preparations.
The main requirement is that it should not get into your eyes! Otherwise, you can burn the mucous. It is better to place there a cotton swab or to hold cotton wool with alcohol for 15-20 minutes.

Another way is to use antibiotics, for example, 1% solution of erythromycin or penicillin, but this method is contraindicated in those who have even a slight allergy to antibiotics. Use them in the form of drops – instill into the affected eye 3-5 times a day, and at night you should put erythromycin or tetracycline ointment over the edge of the lower eyelid. The latter procedure is done only before going to bed, as the ointment does not let to see, creating a light film on the eye, so to use it during the day is not too convenient.
